DVD Flick is a well-know free and easy-to-use DVD converting and authoring software. One of its great features is that 6 built-in DVD menu templates are provided. However, 6 DVD menu templates usually cannot meet the needs of those home movie makers. Many people are looking for ways to add custom DVD Flick menu templates so they have a wider choice when personlizing their DVD menus to their satisfation. If you are one of those who are looking for ways to make custom DVD Flick menu templates, just keep on reading!
In the installation folder of DVD Flick, there is a "template" containing the DVD menu files. What's included? Well, different menu templates have different files. For example, "Plasma Sphere" includes: template.cfg, title.bmp, titleselect.bmp, selectline.bmp, main.bmp, langselect.bmp, example.bmp, etc. All the background images are in 4:3 ratio, usually 768x576 and 300x225. (When customizing the menu background, make sure the images you prepared are in 4:3 ratio (the default sizes are suggested), otherwise, the images will be stretched. Photos in BMP, PNG, and GIF are supported.)
The key point is the template.cfg file, the definition of the menu structure. To make custom DVD menus, you can copy one of the template directories and edit the .cfg file. Add the images you want to use to the directory and open the template.cfg with Notepad or other text editor to begin making custom DVD Flick menu templates. The template.cfg file looks like this:
It is composed of Name, Author, Description, Copyrights, transColor, audioMenu, subtitleMen, mainMenu and titleMenu. There are many parameters you can change to custom the DVD menu, such as the background image (highlight color and select color), the text (size, position, style), etc. Just go through them one by one and set the preferred parameters. This may take some time and requires patience.
When you have finished the editing, restart DVD Flick and test it to ensure it goes all right. If you need some change, just open the template.cfg and modify the parameters.
