What is ISO

ISO stands for International Organization for Standardization. It is the same company that issues the certification papers of companies. However when it comes to video file formats, ISO is the file extension given to the image file of the entire DVD or CD. ISO can be considered as a genuine copy of the original. ISO files can be processed by special media players but not by Windows Media Player or QuickTime. In order for the video file to be viewed on your computer, you may have to download video players such as VLC, KMPlayer, SMPlayer, DAPlayer, and MPlayer.

What is VOB

VOB stands for Video Object. This is a container file found inside DVD discs. It may contain video, audio, menus, subtitles, and navigation data. The file is usually found under the video_ts folder of DVDs. VOB is created in reference to MPEG. It may contain H.262 codecs and normally comes with BUP and IFO files.

ISO vs VOB

Comparing ISO with VOB, their main similarity lies on where they are directly associated with – DVD discs. ISO is a disc image file while VOB is the main video file found inside the disc. Both are immediately played by Blu-ray and other modern DVD players. When storing files on a computer, the ISO copy is recommended. However, extracting the VOB file and converting it into an easily playable video format is also possible.

The ripping software offered at the top of this page, from Aimersoft, is ADWARE. Don't download it or you will be constantly pestered to buy their products. I did a little checking and it seems most people who buy from them regret it. Bad company.

Hi, Jason. DVD-Video and Lossless DVD both output VOB files. Lossless DVD means copy the VOB files in the original DVD folder while DVD-Video means to convert DVD to VOB. Selecting DVD-Video as the output will loss some of the quality.
