DVD Shrink is a free DVD copy software designed to back up DVD to computer's hard drive or create ISO image files for burning later. DVD Shrink can compress the usual 8GB dual-layer DVDs down to 4GB sizes that fit on a single layer (4.7 GB) DVD. This guide will teach you how to use DVD Shrink 3.2 to copy DVDs.
First, free download and install DVD Shrink 3.2 from the Internet. Insert the video DVD you want to copy into the computer's DVD drive. Then launch the program and follow these steps and tips.
Step 1. Open DVD with DVD Shrink
Click the "Open Disc" on the top left and select the DVD Drive your disk is in and click "OK". DVD Shrink will analyze your DVD for a few minutes. Just wait for the analyzing process to be done. Then you will see the movie files displayed on the screen like below.
Step 2. Set compression ratio and choose the audio track you want to get
On the right pane, choose the compression ration you want to use. "Automatic" means DVD Shrink will compress the video to fit on a DVD5 disc. If you like, you can choose other video compress ratio to get the best video files you want. As you can see, there may be many audio tracks included in the movie. Feel free to exclude the audio tracks you don't want to retain in the backup by unchecking any "Audio" or "Subpicture" options. In this way, you can reduce the output video size.
Step 3. Start to back up your DVD movies with DVD Shrink
When you have finished the above settings, click "Back Up" on the top center and you will see the below Backup DVD window. Under Select backup target: If you want to back up the DVD movie to your computer's hard drive, you can choose "Hard Disc Folder". If you want to copy the DVD movie to a new DVD for backup, you can choose "ISO Image File" to create ISO files for later burning. Choose the output location where you'd like to save your files and click "OK" to start backing up DVD using DVD Shrink.
After all the above things done, copying protected DVD has been approaching the end. Now you only need to click "Start" to finish copying your protected DVD.
This may take some time, just wait for the process to be done. When it's finished, you can you will find a VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder or an ISO image file in the destination folder.
If you have Nero installed on your computer, DVD Shrink will ask you to remove the original DVD disc and insert a blank DVD to burn the ISO image file. In this case, you can use DVD Shrink to back up DVD to computer in Video-ts/VOB format or ISO image files.
